The crafting recipes are relatively simple and not overly recursive. You also don't need a special wrench to move a machine (though it is faster), and you will never lose or break anything when you do. I like Thermal Expansion (the old versions, anyway) better than IC2 because inputs & outputs are both easily configurable and color coded. A power source (not included - Tekkit uses Big Reactors, BuildCraft, or Atomic Science, or even Galacticraft Solar, though you might have to get to the Moon to do that one, I don't recall) plus a Pulverizer is where you start, and all you really need is some iron & gold IIRC. There's a grinding machine (Pulverizer instead of Macerator), a powered furnace, an ice-and-snow-making machine, etc. Thermal Expansion in particular is relatively similar to (basically a descendant of) IC2. Instead, Tekkit has Thermal Expansion and a couple of addons for it, plus MineFactory Reloaded.
